When I was diagnosed last year at 21, after having a mole on my face removed essentially for cosmetic reasons, I had no idea how my life was about to change. I've always been sun safe, having grown up in a family with skin like mine, and thought this precautionary mole removal was simply the start of a greater maintenance to my skin and body as I got older.

Almost a year later, I continue to struggle with stage IV melanoma. Although the tests, oncology appointments and treatments are often difficult, the hardest part is looking after my skin every day of the year. Sitting in the shade at pool parties, slathering sunblock to walk down the street and covering my skin at all hours of the day is difficult enough, but more frustrating is the attitude of “it won’t happen to me”.

That’s why I’m inviting you all to walk with me this Melanoma March. Raising money would be great, but raising awareness about sun safety would be even better. Because yes, it can happen to you, and in a land like Australia, we are at a much greater risk. Each year over 1,500 Australians will die from melanoma. It is the most common cancer in Australians aged 15-39 years.

So please join me in the March for Melanoma!

Sunday, February 22^nd at 8am for a 9am start. Meet at Stewart Park for a light 4k run/walk. BYO picnic and pooches! There are plenty of facilities (toilets, cafes, parking) in the area. Cannot wait to see you all there!
